Great success of Primary children

About two years ago, primary school children from several classes throughout the country took part in a call from the Albatros publishing house which was seeking authentic contributions describing the countries of Europe. Those of sufficient quality were to appear in a newly emerging atlas of Europe.

Coincidentally, Czech teachers had been conducting a similar activity with first-graders with regard to homeland studies. It was, therefore, obvious to expand the work, complete it properly and send it to the editorial office. Expectations were high at first.

However, it was clear that preparing a book for publication was not so simple as it was not at all certain whether the students had met the criteria and that their contributions would ever appear in the book. And so, in the wake of other school events, time passed and most people eventually forgot about the whole project. Imagine our surprise when, two years later, pupils from Y6 and Y8 started receiving shipments from the Albatros publishing house in September of this year. After unpacking them, the light shone on everyone involved.
Success! Each young author / contributor received a fresh copy of the book and a fee for their work. We are delighted that our children had become part of this unique project and it is mostly their illustrations, travel experiences, experiences and linguistically high-quality contributions that adorn the chapters dealing with European countries.

“The selections were made in the Albatros editorial office on the basis of meeting the criteria, interest and originality of the paper. We were mainly interested in the personal view and experiences of children rather than dry, generally known facts. Contributions from Park Lane children were among the most diverse and interesting, so we selected almost all of their contributions. The level of their processing was overall very high.”
(Kristýna Brunclíková, Albatros editorial staff).

Congratulations to the deserving children, there are definitely more than a few of them. The students’ work is a great example that the Czech programme not only has its place in Park Lane as an international school, but also demonstrates the outstanding level and quality of instruction.
