Our celebration took place this past Thursday, and it was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate this vibrant tradition. The students learned about the importance of remembering those who have come before us, while also enjoying a fun, colourful, and creative day.

Here are this year’s costume contest winners:

Y7: Ella P – 10 points for Green House and Rizayev R – 10 points for Blue House
Y8: Freya A – 10 points for Green House
Staff Members: Jim Dunwell – 10 points for Blue House and Silva McGuinness – 10 points for Red House

Our thanks go to the members of the MFL department for all your support and dedication in making our Día de los Muertos celebration such a fantastic event this year!

A special thank you goes to Lada Bartošová and the Music Department for the fantastic workshop and show — the students really enjoyed it! We are also grateful to the Czech and Science departments, who always join in and help make the celebration so lively. Thanks also to the Art Department. Tommie has collaborated in creating the alebrijes, which are coming along beautifully.

A big thank you to our Y12 and Y13 students who helped lead this celebration as part of their CAS project: Henry Bowdler and Vera Motrenko led the project — make sure to congratulate them if you see them in Úvoz! Also, Marianna B, Sarah G, Eva W, Michelle K (Y13) and Kristyna J (Y12) contributed wonderfully to preparing the presentation and activities for Y7, making the event engaging and memorable.

Special thanks to Zuzka and Sandra for helping with the decorations in the Learning Center, and Kate for supervising the decorations in the Úvoz Library.

Overall, a big thank you to everyone who contributed in any way — whether by helping, participating with a costume, or simply contributing to the great atmosphere. Your involvement makes this celebration truly special.

The decorations will remain up for a few more days, so please feel free to visit the Learning Center to see all the amazing work.

Thank you again for helping make this event such a success!
