To help children develop independence, confidence, resilience, and self-motivation, our school is excited to offer the Junior Duke Award (not affiliated with the Duke of Edinburgh Award). Designed for children from Reception to Year 6, the award has seven levels—one for each year group—each filled with fun and meaningful challenges.
Mr Joe and Mr Paul discovered this award at the COBIS Annual Conference in the UK and were impressed by how many international schools use it to enhance students’ personal, social, and emotional development.
The Junior Duke Award encourages children aged 5–11 to explore a wide variety of life skills, from first aid, ICT, eco awareness, and drama to music, sport, cookery, and even fixing a bike tyre. Some skills are taught in school, but many challenges are completed at home or in the community, promoting learning with family and friends.
On completing a level, children receive a certificate and badge to celebrate their achievements. While the aim is to finish challenges by the end of the school year, incomplete booklets can continue into the next year, giving every child the chance to succeed.
We are excited to announce that children at Norbertov and Valdštejnská will be taking on the challenge again this year, building on last year’s enthusiasm and achievements.
