On September 30, the whole world celebrated International Translation Day. As a true international community, Park Lane also joined in the celebrations. The Czech Department prepared an LC gallery dedicated to translators who have contributed to the dissemination of Czech literature abroad and also brought foreign literature closer to Czech readers.

During Czech lessons, students also enjoyed many translation activities: they translated comics and children’s books, dubbed a film, and competed in translating idioms. Take a look at a sample of the work of Y7 CAL students and read their feedback on the translation week.

Here is what the students thought:

Ariel Ch., Y7 CAL:

“On translation week, I enjoyed the translation competition, which was with the Czech for Czech class. I really enjoyed the fact that we were doing it with other classes so we could communicate in Czech when we usually don’t. We also did an English to Czech translation, which was a comic book page that we translated which was definitely a unique experience”

Efe F., Y7 CAL:

“For me the most entertaining part of our lessons was creating our own comics. I learned how to put Irony and sarcasm into my writing in Czech.  We had a lesson outside on the terrace playing translation games from English to Czech.”

Ramiz R., Y7 CAL:

“The most entertaining part of the lesson was creating our own story/comics. I learned how to translate words that I never knew about. The terrace activities were really fun and best of all my team got 1st place”.
