Park Lane’s Year 10 art students had the fantastic experience of visiting the art space Kunsthalle to see the current exhibition by internationally renowned artist Chiharu Shiota, titled ‘The Unsettled Soul’. The exhibition features installation artworks of incredible detail and precision; in the first room, countless pieces of red thread hang from the ceiling, immersing the audience fully like a body of water.
Tangled in the thread hang a series of red boats as if taken in a storm. In another room, black thread interweaves from floor to ceiling like smoke, and encased in the centre stands a burnt out piano. Our knowledgeable tour guide helped us question what we were seeing and to analyse all aspects of the work, and the students were very engaged and inquisitive, articulating their ideas about the work in detail.
