On Tuesday, October 6th, award-winning author John Schu visited Park Lane from Chicago, ahead of a literary festival in Hamburg. Students in KS3 and KS4 explored novels-in-verse, joined in choral reading, and received signed books and bookmarks, including copies of John’s Louder Than Hunger. The visit also launched our first story-in-verse competition, open to Years 7–10, with voucher prizes and a November 6th deadline.

Following the session, students wrote thank-you messages in verse. John was particularly touched by a poem from Daniel O. in Year 9 and shared it with his editor in New York. Daniel captured with clarity and emotions a beautiful thank you note in verse that truly summed up the impact that our visiting author John Schu had.
