Children’s education
Our curriculum for children aged 1–2 is based on three key areas of the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and is designed to help toddlers develop a strong sense of security and self-confidence before they begin more formal academic learning.
Our primary focus is on communication and language, guiding children from non-verbal expression towards their first spoken words. At the same time, we nurture their personal and social development by building strong relationships with key teachers and forming early friendships with peers.
We bring this philosophy to life through a dynamic programme structured around a “Book of the Week,” “Craft of the Week,” and “Song of the Week.” These regular features help us organise learning into engaging, seasonal themes that accompany children throughout the year.
Throughout the year topics and themes of learning are built around the childrens development and interests which mean these may be subject to change.

Nap time is essential for recharging your toddler’s growing brain and body after a busy morning of discovery and play. This quiet rest helps them process what they’ve learned and regulates their mood.
Thematic Discovery & Academic Integration
Autumn 1 (Sept – Oct): Adaptation, All about me & Autumn During this first part of the term, our primary focus is adaptation, helping children form positive relationships with each other and staff and to feel secure in their new environment through outdoor play and celebrating milestones like the “First Shared Lunch.” As we settle in, we introduce our “Autumn” theme to spark curiosity. Children will develop their fine motor skills and sensory awareness through hands-on activities, such as making autumn-themed crafts and exploring textures with crunchy leaves.
Autumn 2 (Nov – Dec): Christmas time As we move into the festive season, our theme shifts to “Christmas ,” embracing the excitement of lights and music. Our focus is on supporting children’s growing self-regulation, encouraging them to express simple emotions like joy or excitement. Learning becomes a sensory adventure as children develop their whole-hand grasp (fine motor skills) by exploring textures like gloop and shiny objects, while also sharpening their listening skills by learning to recognise and respond to their own names.
Winter 1 (Jan – Feb): Winter & Polar Friends This term, we embrace the chill with our ” Winter & Polar Friends” theme, exploring the snowy world of penguins and polar bears. We use these exciting animals to encourage early speaking skills, listening to sounds and practicing single words. Physically, the focus is on stability and coordination; children will build their gross motor skills by mimicking animals waddling like penguins or squatting to explore “snowy” sensory trays.
Winter 2 (Feb – Easter): Nursery Rhymes & Farm Animals As we transition towards spring, our theme comes alive with “Nursery Rhymes & Farm Animals,” bringing the farmyard into the classroom through song and story. We focus heavily on growing independence, encouraging children to master self-care skills like feeding themselves with a spoon. Social communication blossoms as we join in with familiar action rhymes and mimic animal sounds, while fine motor skills are strengthened by turning pages in board books and handling props during singing time.
Spring 1 (April – May): Spring & Minibeasts With the arrival of warmer weather, our theme bursts into life with “Spring & Minibeasts,” taking our learning outdoors to discover the waking garden. We focus on building social awareness as children begin to play contentedly alongside their friends (“parallel play”) while hunting for bugs and flowers. Physical confidence grows as they run and navigate obstacles in the open space, while their understanding of language deepens by following simple instructions during our outdoor adventures.
Summer (May – June): Under the Sea & Summer Time The school year culminates with our sunny themes of “Under the Sea & Summer Time,” taking full advantage of the warmer weather. We spend the majority of our days outdoors in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying sensory-rich activities like water play and building with sand. Imagination takes center stage as children engage in role-play games—such as running their own “ice-cream shop”—which naturally encourages social interaction and helps them practice playing cooperatively with friends.
