Five Year 12 students completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Practice Expedition in the Malá Fatra mountains of Slovakia, accompanied by Mr Sandiford and Ms Elliott-Foster.

Over five days, the team hiked and camped across challenging mountain terrain, carrying all their equipment and navigating independently using maps and compasses. Highlights included reaching the summit of Velký Kriváň (1,708 m), overcoming difficult weather conditions, and even spotting a family of brown bears from across a valley.

The expedition tested students’ resilience, teamwork, and outdoor skills while providing valuable preparation for their upcoming Gold Award assessed expedition.
