Teacher of Business and economics

I’m originally from Birmingham and studied Economics at the University of Leicester before training as a teacher at the University of Hull. I spent most of my teaching career in the UK, including several years leading Economics and Business departments in London schools, before moving to Prague and into international education.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching Economics is helping students see how the subject connects to the world around them. I think a good understanding of Economics helps young people make sense of the choices made by governments, businesses and individuals, and encourages them to question ideas, look at the evidence and reach their own conclusions. I also enjoy the practical side of Business: helping students understand how organisations work and encouraging them to think creatively and entrepreneurially, whether they eventually work within an organisation or decide to pursue ideas of their own.

My wife is Czech and we have a young son. Living in Prague has given me the chance to explore much more of Central Europe, and travelling is something I really enjoy. I have also learned to ski since moving to the Czech Republic — something that was considerably less accessible growing up in Birmingham! Away from school, I play guitar, write and record my own songs, and follow Birmingham City. I’m pleased to say that I have also managed to pass that particular enthusiasm on to my son.
