Nicola Brown

Head of Middle School

I began my career in education in the UK, teaching Science in independent schools in London, including Queen’s College, Harley Street and Channing School. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in science and medical research and completed a PhD in Experimental Pathology at St Bartholomew’s Medical School, an experience that shaped my belief in the importance of curiosity, evidence and critical thinking.

For more than a decade, I have worked in international schools across Asia in a range of academic and senior leadership roles. I was part of the founding leadership teams at Epsom College in Malaysia and St Joseph’s Institution International, before becoming Head of Secondary and, previously, Interim Principal at the British International School of Kuala Lumpur. Working in different schools and communities has reinforced my belief that excellent schools combine high expectations with genuine care, creating environments where students feel safe, included and able to thrive.

Throughout my career, safeguarding, inclusion and equity have been particularly important to me, alongside developing excellent teaching and learning. I believe strongly in knowing our students as individuals and empowering them to succeed. Education should equip young people not only with knowledge and qualifications, but also with the confidence, curiosity and resilience to make their way in an increasingly complex world.

I am delighted to have joined Park Lane as Head of Middle School. I want our students to be ambitious for themselves, while knowing that school is also a place where they can ask questions, make mistakes, try new things and learn from others. Park Lane’s international community and its commitment to academic challenge and personal development make it a wonderful place for them to do this.

Outside school, I am a keen long-distance and trail runner and an enthusiastic reader, and I enjoy films and music. Having recently moved to Prague, I am looking forward to exploring the city and the Czech countryside – preferably with my running shoes close at hand.
