Important Update: IB Diploma Now Fully Recognized as Czech “Maturita” Equivalent

We are pleased to share an important and positive update that will significantly benefit our students and their families.

As of 1st March 2025, following the adoption of Amendment No. 52/2025 Sb., the Czech Higher Education Act (Act No. 111/1998 Sb.) has been updated to recognize the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma as a full equivalent of the Czech “maturita” (secondary school leaving exam).

This means that students who hold an IB diploma no longer need to undergo the nostrifikace process (the official recognition of foreign education) when applying to Czech universities.

Even more importantly, the change applies retroactively, so it is valid for all IB diplomas issued before the amendment came into effect.

This is a significant and very welcome step that simplifies the university application process in the Czech Republic for our IB graduates.
