In our Czech lessons, we often work with interesting texts and books, striving to bring literature closer to students in as many ways as possible. One of the most effective approaches is direct contact and meetings with authors of children’s and young adult literature.

On Wednesday, February 12th, we had the pleasure of welcoming writer Bára Dočkalová to Valdštejnská. Two of her books, The Secret of Pebble Mountain and The Battle for the Diamond, have been nominated for the Magnesia Litera award. Her latest book, Kost, has recently been published and is now available in bookstores.

Year 6 students had the opportunity to learn about the author’s sources of inspiration and the process of creating a book. After a brief discussion, they listened to an excerpt and tried to predict how the story would unfold. Mrs. Dočkalová enthusiastically answered all their questions and encouraged the children to engage in their own writing and reading.

The book Kost, published by the renowned Labyrint publishing house, is now available in our school library! This novel, with its unique theme, is even being considered for a radio adaptation and possibly an animated film. It has received excellent reviews!
