On Tuesday, November 14th, Year 13 Czech A Literature students visited the National Theatre for a theatrical adaptation of ‘Kytice’ – a nationally important collection of Czech folklore and ballads written during the Czech National Revival. Not only was this a great opportunity to further expand our understanding of Czech cultural history at the National Theatre, but it was also very interesting to see a different interpretation of ‘Kytice’ in a more dramatised format. Seeing this performance was crucial in extending our knowledge of Erben’s ideas of human morality, man’s relationship to the surrounding world and the idea of an unavoidable fate.
