Chas Beven

Lead Practicioner for Pedagogy & Professional Innovation, Teacher of Biology

I have been teaching for six years. Prior to joining the Park Lane community I taught for two years at an international school in the United Arab Emirates. I spent the first four years of my teaching career teaching in Australia where I am originally from. I have experience teaching both the IGCSE and the IB Diploma programs, as a Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies specialist teacher. Throughout my teaching career I have developed a passion for teaching and learning which led to me completing my Master of Education specialising in educational leadership.

My philosophy and approach to teaching focuses on supporting student learning styles and promoting a growth mindset in students. I believe that it is important to support students to become lifelong learners who are independent, curious about learning and intrinsically motivated. My programs revolve around the ability to engage your critical thinking skills and expose students to a variety of strategies within a safe and supportive learning environment. I am very excited to continue to teach the subjects I love at Park Lane and to also support students and staff in my role as Challenge and Potential Coordinator.

As an environmentalist at heart, I am very eager to explore the surrounding wilderness of the Czech Republic and beyond. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy camping, hiking, and reading. I am an avid traveller. Therefore, I spend most of my free time discovering new places or environments.
