Year 4 have started the summer term by learning all about news reports. We’ve studied newspapers and websites to identify the main features that make up a news report. (These include detailing exactly WHAT has happened, WHEN it was, WHERE it took place, WHY it occurred and WHO was involved.)

Now we are writing reports based on Roald Dahl’s hilarious book The Witches. Police have discovered an evil plan to turn all children into mice, and we are interviewing eyewitnesses and outlining all the details for our readers. We’ve created headlines: EVIL PLOT TO KILL KIDS FOILED! And we came up with subheadings to break our information into handy readable chunks.

Next, we “hot seated” as Bruno Jenkins – one of the boys cruelly transformed into a rodent – and took turns answering questions from an interviewer. Could we put ourselves in the eyewitness’ shoes?

Year 4 have started the summer term by learning all about news reports.

Soon, we will compose news reports about a volcanic eruption!
