International Women’s Day gave us the idea of highlighting one of the most inspirational women of the Czech National Revival – Božena Němcová. Students from Year 9 learned about her difficult life and read some of her work and letters. We discussed her relationship with her husband Josef Němec, her son Karel Němec, her good friend Karel Havlíček Borovský and her lover Václav Bolemír Nebeský.
Our wonderful students created a humourous chat conversation between her and those important men in her life. They could use today’s language and even some 19th-century writing specialties like using the letter W instead of V.
