Well done to the Y6 debate team: Kushi, Tisha, Mína and Kacper, who represented Park Lane in an online debating competition against several other international schools.
In the run up to the debate, I ran a lunchtime club for 6 weeks in order to introduce the children to the debating format, techniques and terminology. A week before the debate, the children were given the debate title, This House believes that Disney Films provide bad role models for children, and they had to argue for the motion. An intensive week was spent developing their arguments, finding research and statistics on the topic, writing their speeches and learning how to deliver them confidently. Even though the team did not reach the final, they debated with confidence and they should be proud of what they achieved in a short space of time. They impressed me with their teamwork, enthusiasm and diligence.
